Concert Commissions Film Music Jingle Writing
Matt has written a wide variety of concert music including pieces for large ensemble, chamber groups, and art songs. For a sample of some of these pieces, check out the Composition page where you can find scores and recordings of his works. With a background in classical and jazz studies, he has a wide range of stylistic possibilities at his fingertips and enjoys exploring these possibilities in writing new music. As a composer of art songs, Matt has worked closely with the singers that he is writing for, and in any commission he enjoys writing for any individuals specific talents or strengths as a performer. Having written his first film score while in high school, Matt took an early interest to the art of composing for film. He listens to a lot of film music and a few influences include James Horner, Jeff Beal, Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, John Williams, and Thomas Newman. While at Ithaca College , student filmmaker Ivan Senjanovic hired Matt to score The Billboard . Working closely with the director, Matt scored the twenty-minute film and it has since been presented at student film screenings, and submitted to several festivals. Matt is always interested in new opportunities to score films or animations, whether they are three minute experimental films or feature length movies. Matt's diverse background in many styles of classical and popular music has proven itself useful in the commercial world of jingle writing. In this field, Matt has had to entertain requests to replicate a variety of styles, including folk, jazz, funk, and more. The talent and resources needed to write and record jingles in such a variety of genres has been extremely valuable for Matt as a composer of commercial music.
